ATHEISM AND ISLAM: A CONTEMPORARY DISCOURSE
A monograph by Dr. Shoaib Ahmed Malik Kalam Research & Media (KRM) announces the publication of a new monograph as part of its Monograph Series. In “Atheism and Islam: A Contemporary Discourse” Dr Shoaib Malik skillfully surveys the expanding gap between Islam, Islamic Thought and the discourse of contemporary movements of atheism, often called New Atheism. This monograph offers a much-needed, comprehensive, and thematic overview of the atheist-theist discourse from several scientific and philosophical-theological perspectives. The author covers the rhetoric of Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Richard Dawkins and Ali Rizvi, and expresses scientific and philosophical contentions based upon those arguments. The monograph provides a critique of the ubiquitous over-reliance on natural theology, which has not resolved the “theological gap”, as opposed to the extra-evaluative potential of systematic (revealed) theology. From evolution to sociology, physics to metaphysics, philosophy to theology, this monograph provides an important overview of the current state of the discourse. Dr Shoaib Ahmed Malik is Assistant Professor at Zayed University in Dubai. He obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham. Upon graduating in 2015 he joined several programs at various Islamic institutions. His research, however, is entirely in the realms of atheism, science and religion, and Islamic theology, and he is currently preparing for a PhD in the realm of science and religion.
