Ingredients are measured with me in the lesson, so they do not need to be measured, only the butter is pre-weighed please. This is a guide so you provide enough of the ingredient for your Mini to weigh Live with me:

Ingredient:
1/2 cup of milk
1 egg
80g butter (pre-weighed)
1 cup Self raising flour
4 tablesooons cocoa powder (not drinking chocolate)
1 and 1/4 cup brown sugar (any, I use soft light brown)
Water to boil in kettle (we will do this together)

Equipment:
8" pyrex dish or cake tin (i will send pic) 
Ikea kids cups x 3 (cup measures)
Mixing bowls
Mixing spoon or spatulas
2 forks
2 Tablespoons 
Microwavable mug with handle

Tea towel/tissues to wipe hands

Optional apron to wear

Please wash your hands and tie back long hair! Avoid loose sleeves and hanging clothing

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Over this half term holiday, we will be holding a special show and tell session: FE-Pets Meet 
This is a super opportunity for the children to get excited and showcase their pets in turn and enjoy their friend’s pets too, whilst making reference to it in an Islamic context.

You can perhaps link it to the Prophet’s (PBUH) cat 🐱, or the birds 🐦 or Spider 🕸️🕷️that protected him whilst in  Cave Thawr. You may even consider relating the Sunnah of horse riding with your pet - especially if you have a pet horse.

If you have a fish 🐠 to share, how about telling us what you learnt about Prophet Yunus (AS) and the whale 🐳 or maybe Prophet Sulayman (AS) and the ant 🐜.  You may have sheep 🐑 or goats 🐐 and want to reflect on the early life of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a shepherd. 

Be creative and reflective!

Are you a family of beekeepers? 🐝 You may have a picture to share in your special outfit. Don’t forget to tell us about how the work of bees 🐝is mentioned in the Qur'an 📖.

Dear Parents / Guardians,

FEP FEES UPDATE for the upcoming months during the Coronavirus Lockdown Period: 

We would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank all FEP parents and supporters for the ongoing support and patience throughout this period. Whilst the New online Zoom classes continue, we continue to teach children online insha'Allah with added weekday sessions.  This does come at a cost, with multiple premium zoom accounts for teachers and staff salaries. 

Therefore,  as discussed in earlier communications at the start of the lockdown in March will be setting up a new price structure for monthly fees. 

 A new Direct debit will be set up by our Admin Team of £25.50 per month per child as the fee has been reduced there is no sibling discount. The New Direct Debit will be set up next weekend for the first payment to go out on the 1st of June. For those parents who have annual payments and have paid for the whole year, we will be in touch at the end of July after fees have been calculated to refund any monies due.   For parents who continue to pay the full fee as gesture of donation to FEP JazakAllahu khairan for your support in these challenging times

We intend to also continue our online classes during the month of August this year.  Each online madrasah month will consist of 4 weeks.  Based on this the fees works out to be £6.37 per week.

If anyone is facing particular hardship or has any queries regarding the fees please contact the admin team on the admin number. 

Next weekend we will be closed for Classes for ‘id al-fitr 

May Allah accept our fasts and ibadah this Ramadan -   Ameen.

🚲Our First FECycle Khutbah at Masjid Abu Bakr 🚲

Main crux of the khutbah was that due to colonialism and other reasons that our Muslim worldview has tended to divide *'*dini - Islamic'* and *'dunyawi - worldy'*.

However, the Prophetic epistemological approach has been holistic, organic and in line with what is defined as Tawhidic Universalism.

The Following hadith in al-Daylami is very interesting in this regard:
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, *'Learn the casting of arrows (archery) and the Qur'an'*.

The physical and the spiritual go hand in hand with the Prophetic Pedagogy.

The hadith of the health practitioner who after a long stay in Madinah came to the Prophet and explained how he hardly had any patients. To which the Prophet (PBUH) replied, "we are the people who do not eat until we get hungry and when we eat we avoid overeating".

The overall lived experience of the sahaba was one where both the spiritual and physical health went hand in hand.

The Prophetic traditions point towards this:

... ان لجسدك عليك حقا...
... indeed your body has a right upon you...

...اعوذ بك من العجز والكسل
... Oh Allah I seek your protection from powerlessness and laziness...

"Compete in archery, have a fit body and walk barefoot"

"Any action without the remembrance of Allah is either a diversion or heedlessness with exemption to *four* acts;
1. Walking from target to target (archery);
2. Horse riding;
3. Playing with family and
4. Swimming"

"Learn the casting of arrows and the Qur'an"

There are numerous ahadith which emphasise the importance of walking🚶🏻, running🏃🏻, archery🏹, swimming 🏊🏾, spear throwing , wrestling 🤼‍♂ and horse riding 🏇🏻.

Coming back to the holistic approach of living Islam in today's modern context. 6 million people in Britain today do not take a brisk walk of over 10 minutes each month. Sedentary lifestyles take an estimated 85,000 peoples lives each year.

Today's health experts believe that cycling can make people healthy and live longer, cut public health costs.

This has enormous health implications, with inactive people significantly more likely to develop cardiovascular problems, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers.

In conclusion, our Muslim worldview should include the physical alongside the spiritual and afford it the importance given by our Prophet (PBUH). I believe every masjid / madrasah should work towards having a Scouts Club, archery club and cycling club.

Cycle Sisters and FECycle are recruiting for volunteer Ride Leaders!

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your cycling and leadership skills as well as share your passion for cycling with others. As well as the free training outlined below you will receive ongoing support and development in the role and become part of our dedicated team of Ride Leaders that help achieve amazing outcomes for our participants.

Cycle Sisters, an award winning Muslim women's cycle group, is looking for applications from sisters who would like to train as a volunteer Ride Leaders to support their weekend rides in Waltham Forest. This will enable them to expand their Saturday rides, for which there has been a huge demand, and start offering 2 rides per month.

FECycle, a ground-breaking cycling project of the Fatimah Elizabeth Cates Academy in Walthamstow, are looking for applications from brothers who would like to train as volunteer Ride Leaders to support their current weekend rides and enable them to start offering fortnightly intermediate led rides for brothers to support their journeys into cycling.

Applicants would need to be able to commit to leading two rides per month (term time only from June 2019) from start points in Walthamstow and Leyton. They will also need to be able to attend the training elements including a 1 day Ride Leader course on Sunday 7th April at Low Hall depot. The training also includes, an induction session (on 18th May), first aid training, bike maintenance (TBC), level 3 Cycle Skills training and mentoring from an experienced Ride Leader.

What is Voice Box?
Voice Box is a national joke competition for mainstream and special schools, which reminds people that all children need support to build their communication skills and confidence and some need additional specialist help to speak and/or understand what is being said to them. The competition is run by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) in partnership with the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) and is supported by The Communication Trust (TCT).
 
The deadline for jokes to be sent to us:

• Saturday 25th November (Saturday Students)
• Sunday 26th November (Sunday Students)

In the meantime Jokes can be prepared/ pre-recorded, and the videos sent to us via email but remember we want the jokes to incorporate Islamic themes – well leave that to the students and parents.  Ustadh Danyaal – our SENCO and Speech & Language therapist will be leading on this, so you can also come and visit him in the office.  For more information on Voice Box please see the link below:

We will cycle either to Wanstead Park (approx 9km) or Valentines Park (approx 19km) depending on the ability of the group. There will be a cafe stop once we reach the park before we return back to Frederick Bremer school in time for pick up from madrasah.
 
You will need your own bike and helmet (in the future, we hope to be able to offer bikes to borrow). We also recommend you bring some water, snacks and some gloves.
 
This ride is suitable for people who know how to ride a bike and are able to balance well, turn corners and brake. Both routes involve riding on roads although wherever possible quiet and back roads are used. You do not need to be confident at riding on roads to join the ride - we will have an experienced ride leader at the front and back of the group to facilitate junctions.  The pace of the ride will be relaxed and tailored according to the participants. The aim is for a fun and enjoyable ride!
